Project description

Context

This project is initially part of the major conception projects created by Sherbrooke’s university mechanical engineering students. The Project targets mountain bike riders who want to extend their season in the winter by offering them a prototype reproducing as closely as possible the feelings given by their regular mountain bike.

At the beginning of 2016, the hype for the product motivates the Startup of a company that would make the all season bicycle available with the feedback from the community.

Constraints

The community is at the core of the company. The conception is based on their feedback. To achieve fast design iterations and a flexible production, the fabrication is made in small batches. The plastic components are printed out of ABS to combine freedom of design, low investment costs and durability.

Competition

The closest product is the Fatbike. This bicycle caracterized by oversized tires is growing in popularity as much in northern regions as in deserts. This product renowned by its sturdyness and versatility. However, the concept of wheel makes it impossible to ride in the wild snow trails. This is where the Avalanche Project bike shines: The surface area ont the ground is increased by the usage of a track system at the back and a pair of skis up front.

Some may say we are reinventing the wheel, nevertheless, we acknowledge the strengths of the Fatbike. This is why our products are compatible with the new 197mm frame standard. This way, you have access to a large selection of components for transmission, suspension and braking while we can focus on what makes us unique.

Products and services

The company plans to market its product as a replacement kits for Fatbike at the beginning. The first product is the rear track system that simply replaces the wheel. The second product is the dual ski direction that goes up front.

We have taken steps in order to offer a customization service online to allow customers to build a complete bike with a wide selection of components.

Furthermore, partnerships will be established to offer location services in parks.
